Here's a list of service events, celebrations and parades in the DMV for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. Encounter Life Church MLK Day of Service 2025. Date: Monday, January 20, 2025. The federal government shuts down on the third Monday of every January for the day to honor Martin Luther King Jr. This year, that day is Jan. 20.
